Journal Entries: May 2009

May 22, 2009: There is a new section in my store today. I have given away my share of things.... My neighbors occasionally will take something that has seen better days. Some things are sent off to thrift shops. There was even an instance of a pile of 'stuff' left on a lawn with a sign that said "free" conspicuously placed beside - it all disappeared, even the free stuff.

I sort through a lot of 'stuff'. Other peoples treasures. Some of it really isn't saleable. A lot of that stuff really is beautiful!

This page contains items which are found no where else on my site. They are listed here for $1 each (I needed a figure so that the computer program would accept them into my inventory.) The cost to you is really, the cost of the shipping - the actual cost of the postage plus $1.

No strings, nothing asked. I simply hope that you enjoy browsing here and that you might find a treasure that you or someone that you know, can use. (The limit is one item, per month, per address.)

May 18, 2009: Today I listed another piece of elephant ivory. I have wrestled with the morality of this. What it comes down to, for me, is that these pieces are a reminder of an age and an attitude that is (for the most part) no longer with us. For these changes in attitude I am grateful. But, to destroy these pieces would be indicative of another mindset that I do not share. The ivory pieces I list for sale here in my shop, are mostly from estates. They were collected, each one being more than 50 years old. Each piece tells a story. And that story is a little different for every person who holds one of these pieces of history in their hands. It is history that I have on display here. Those pieces of history which have meaning to people who view them, will find homes. That is all I try to do here. Preserving miniscule moments of the past, with future memories....

If your views are different (or in agreement), please send me a note. Because, I would like to hear from you. Leslie

May 15, 2009: I checked the "Twitter" link on the sidebar this afternoon. Oops! The link is now fixed....

I've been Twittering lately. It is definitely a lot of fun. I have found some wonderful people out in Twitterland, not just retailers, but bloggers, web site wanderers, and people who aren't anything besides just plain interesting!

Join us on Twitter. Lately I have been putting all the new items, mark downs, sales, updates, and coupon info out there. It really is fun! Leslie :)

May 14, 2009: A potential customer just informed me that they would not be purchasing because there is no phone number listed on my site. There used to be. It was removed because this is a very small business. I have a small warehouse, a personal phone, and a day job.... Now, instead of having the phone number on the web site, it is listed as part of my signature on my e-mails. I am available by phone, during the day.

I hope that this helps anyone who is reluctant to deal with an online company that doesn't list their phone number. If you do still have any concerns, please just contact me. I sincerely hope that you will find me easy and pleasant to deal with. Sincerely, Leslie

May 12, 2009: Oh my! We are Twittering away and people are stopping by.... This is wonderful.

Twittering is a lot of fun! And, I have begun to follow in the line of antique shops who are promoting the "Greenness" of antiques. This is something I hadn't much thought about before but it really is true. When we purchase and use something that is antique, vintage, or even just used - the energy to make a replacement for that item has not been spent.... That energy is still available to use for something else.

I love finding wonderful treasures. I think of many things as treasures that I know other people do not. I really don't mind using a dish with a small chip or mark on it. (As long as it isn't dangerous or sharp - and this is just my personal opinion here!) If you are not sure about whether or not something is safe to use, ask! Write me a quick note, or ask someone you trust. Always be certain, and safe.... There is no better feeling in the world than feeling good about what you are doing.

May 8, 2009: Sunday is Mother's Day. Sunday is also my birthday. I have a friend who has one of the most incredible jewelry stores! Her store is not incredible for what she sells (although that is a part of it), it is incredible because of her. Her personality, her taste, and her attention to detail. Every year, on her birthday, she has "staff appreciation day." She closes the store and takes her entire staff out for lunch. I have no staff. But I do have a little store here. So....

On May 10th (Mother's Day and my birthday), it is customer appreciation day here at Cherry Blossom in Blue. An extra 20% off of (or 20% more off of) everything in the store!

To receive your 20% off. Just type "Happy Day" in the coupon code box.

If there are any problems, if the coupon code doesn't work, or if there is any discrepancy, buy the item anyways. Instead of being disappointed if someone else purchases what you want - we can just figure things out on Monday. I hope that everyone will find a reason to smile on Sunday. Because smiling is a very good feeling!

I won't be around to answer questions on this day. My daughter has other plans for me.... It will be a good day to smile! I hope that you enjoy this Sunday as well. Leslie

May 6, 2009: Today, and the last few days have been interesting. I have joined Twitter, have begun to "learn" to Twitter might be how to put this.... I think that Twittering has become a very neat, and very useful little tool. I have learned a lot from people in the last few days. In particular - one gentleman has gotten me to thinking about the relationship between our environment and antiques. It is a relationship!

"used is good. Antique is better - it means generations of carbon saving - a way of saving for decades more. Multiply your savings." Greenspotting

I have included a link to Greenspotting at the bottom of this page. I think this site is unique and insightful. And I love the ideas here. I hope you have fun here too! Leslie
