Etruscan or Cannetille Style Brooch/Pendant, 15ct. yellow gold with diamond

Antique, Victorian era brooch/pendant of Etruscan or cannetille design. The wire-work patterns in this stunning brooch remind me of single stalks of wheat, golden and ripe.

The back is marked only "15ct." The pin is heavy and in good condition. The C-clasp is solid. There is a small, centered loop so that this piece can be worn on a chain or as part of a watch fob. The diamond is hand cut and securely mounted. When examined closely through a loop, the surface, especially the back, is covered with tiny scratches. This is not visible without a jeweler's loop. This is an exceptional piece of antique, estate jewelry.

Size: Approximate measurements are 1-5/8" x 1/2". Total weight is 3.6 grams.

Cannetille is the use of thin wires in making a very specific type of filigree pattern. The wires are often found to be formed into tightly coiled spirals or rosettes Cannetille is also a type of embroidery worked with fine twisted gold or silver thread. These pieces are usually English and almost always date to the early- to mid-Victorian era of the 19th century.
