Common Sense in the Household by Marion Harland

Product Description

Common Sense in the Household: A Manual of Practical Housewifery by Marion Harland.
From the Title Page: "We go upon the practical mode of teaching, Nickleby. When a boy knows this out of book he, he goes and does it. This is our system. What do you think of it?" - Nicholas Nickleby.
I am not too certain what Marion Harland meant when she included this quote under the title of her book, but I do agree that when we know how to do something there is a good chance that we will just head out and do it!
This book is mostly recipes. It was published in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, by the Rose Publishing Company. There are no advertisements in it nor a publication date. From my research I believe it was published circa 1900.
The book is not in great condition. It has been used and abused and well loved for it's recipes. There are dog-eared pages and stains which have likely resulted from it's being on the counter in the midst of preparing one of the hundred or so recipes it contains in these well thumbed pages. There are 319 (numbered) of these pages. There does not appear to be any missing (the last page is loose) but please note that I have not counted each page.
This book will be shipped to you, wrapped and well protected inside a sturdy box. It is fragile and I do not think that a padded envelope (although less expensive) would be enough protection to see it safely to your door.
I am opening a new page in this website to showcase some of the wonderful recipes from this and other books I currently have in my possession. Please click on the "Recipes" link below to see some the recipes included in this book. A second link "My Etsy Shop" will take you to more photographs of this delightful book.
