Carvings: From all over the World

So many beautiful carvings have so much history within the various population centers of our world. As this world has grown smaller with travel and communication, the opportunities for learning and collecting have grown.

The carvings to be found on these pages are not always considered to be art. I find that is sad, because in most cases, these pieces are representative of a culture. The purposes for carving can be linked to religion, tradition, self-expression, and livelihood. Isn't that a partial definition of what art is?
