Antique Wooden Doll Cradle and Quilt, Handmade and Hand-quilted - circa 1930s or earlier - Sold

Product Description

This handmade pine doll's cradle was just the most wonderful find for me and I hope that it is for you too! I have put circa 1930s because the fabrics in the quilts look to be about that age, however, the cradle could be much older.
The cradle is handmade out of what appears to be re-used pine. Maybe from an old piece of furniture? We do it now but we did not invent the idea. The 1930s were a time when nothing had a possible future use was tossed away.... Anyways, underneath the cradle there is a large chip out of one corner. It has been there for a very long time and the cradle may even have been made like this! Also, one of the runners is crooked. It does not interfere with the rocking and the entire cradle is stable with no loose joints.
The hand-made blanket is made of small squares of scrap fabrics. Then the blanket was quilted with tiny piece of orange wool at each corner of each square. The little tufts are all hand-knotted.
This might not be the best toy for a little one. I think it is much more suitable for a collector as it is put together with an assortment of nails and there is no telling what the finish as it appears that it was just oiled and rubbed.
