Antique Postcard - The Water Chute, Old Pier, Weston-Super-Mare, circa 1905

I'm a little uncertain as to whether or not water chutes pre-date rollercoasters, but it seems to be a fair assumption. It seems the theory is to get in the little boat at the top, propel down the chute with the aid of gravity and then hit the water at the bottom with a big "SPLASH!"

That looks like a wonderful bit of fun and certainly is attracting a good crowd! At the bottom, I believe that you got to float around for a bit before getting out. This postcard is circa 1900 and is the first I have seen of the Super-Mare water chute that is actually showing a boat full of people on the way down.

Condition: Excellent! There are slight pressure marks from album storage which are barely noticeable. This is an unused, original, antique, plain back, real photograph card.
